Third Brain is built on a simple principle: your data is your data. The product runs on your machine so that we never have to hold, see, or secure your working life. This policy describes the small amount of information this website collects, and how the app itself handles data.
This website
Waitlist signups
If you join the waitlist, we store what you type into the form: your name, email address, the plan you're interested in, and your optional note — along with the browser user-agent, the referring page, and, if you arrived from one of our own links, campaign tags (UTM parameters) that tell us which article or post brought you here. This lives in a database we control (Cloudflare D1) and is used for exactly one purpose: contacting you about Third Brain's launch and understanding which of our writing resonates. We do not sell it, share it, or use it for anything else. Want off the list? Email us and we'll delete your row.
Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless and does not track you across sites, build a profile of you, or collect personal information. It tells us page counts and referrers in aggregate — nothing about you individually.
What we deliberately don't do
- No advertising trackers, no third-party analytics, no cookies for tracking.
- Fonts are served from our own domain — your visit is not disclosed to Google or any CDN font service.
- No data brokers, no "partners," no lookalike audiences.
The Third Brain app
The app processes your data locally, on your device, by default. Your email, chat, notes, commitments, and search index live in a local database under your home directory. We have no server-side copy and no access to any of it.
- Local AI by default. Language models and embeddings run on your hardware. No content is sent to us or to any AI provider unless you explicitly configure a cloud model with your own API key — in which case that data goes directly from your machine to the provider you chose, under their terms.
- No content telemetry. Ever. The app does not phone home with your data. Diagnostic metrics are stored locally on your machine for your own inspection.
- Network calls the app does make: downloading model weights (from Hugging Face, GitHub, or our mirror), checking for app updates, and syncing with the accounts you connect (e.g. your own Gmail) — directly between your machine and those services.
- Open formats. Your data is exportable at any time. If you stop using Third Brain, everything stays on your machine in formats you can read.
When optional cloud features (encrypted sync, cloud AI) launch, they will get their own explicit, opt-in terms — and local-only will always remain a fully supported mode.
